Smoo Cave
A cloudy and chilly start to the day, breezy too. As the day went on, the clouds cleared, warmed and flat calm this evening.
Up early, nipped into Tain after breakfast, and quick bakery visit. Headed north to Tongue, with various stops along the way. From there, we headed to Durness, more stops too. The main aim was to get to Cape Wrath, unfortunately we messed that up and missed the last ferry, woops, I'll just have to come back another time. Back down via the west coast. That's me covered almost all the NC500 now, not all at the same time, or year even, just Tongue to Thurso to go. A couple of pints this evening, now feet up by the (fake) fire.
Scotland really is a stunning country, so much beauty and only one photo per day! This whole new to me area is fast becoming my favourite part of the country (apart from home). This caves really were a fantastic find, and not overly busy either. We looked down from above first, then walking into the cave felt like walking into a cathedral. My photos haven't done it justice at all. The cave formed from the sea and land, with the limestone eroding away, making this incredible entrance. With a drier summer, the inner waterfalls were dry, and bad timing again, missed the cave boat tour. Looking out the Smoo Cave entrance, Durness, north Sutherland.
