Thetford

Wanted to visit the garden centre at Thetford so went for a walk around the town first, finding parts we'd never seen before, which is always interesting! The centre of the town is dominated by the river, as this is where the Thet merges with the Little Ouse. The central section of the Blip shows one of the mills, originally for grain then finally for coffee before ceasing production in the 1950s.

The statues in the riverside park commemorate two figures with local connections: Duleep Singh, the last Maharajah of the Punjab, who emigrated to Britain and lived on the nearby Elveden Estate, and "Captain Mainwaring", as many of the outdoor scenes from Dad's Army were filmed locally.

The ruined priory is also a feature, just north of the town centre, as is the wildlife along the river. I actually saw several kingfishers on a quiet stretch to the south of the town, but as there was no way of catching them on camera you'll just have to take my word for it!
