Moth

Once we get home, I force myself into packing proper. You’ll know by now that my usual method is best described as ‘last minute panic’, so this is a major change! It still takes me the best part of the day, but I’m nearly there - and if we do get a call from Meols, we should be able to go knowing we’re ready for off on Sunday!

As it is, an evening call assures us all is well - but of course things can change, so we’re ready for anything! Both our boys were just short of two weeks late, but Lili was a couple of days early. Solveig is only 37 weeks, but seems to have sensed the baby will be early. Her mother arrives next Wednesday from Germany, so they’ll only have three days to worry about and I think she’s got her ‘mum friends’ on standby.

They have all the equipment for the home birth now - though the birthing pool remains in its box - but I think she’s going to have to hang on for a few more days before the midwife will be happy for this to go ahead.

My battle for my usual ‘rescue pack’ of antibiotics continues. I fully appreciate the need for specific antibiotics and the dangers of overuse leading to resistance, and only ever ask for them if I know I’m suffering from an infection, but knowing I have the option of an early use of a broad spectrum antibiotic would certainly help. We basically only have locum GPs who usually know nothing of my complex medical history. I suppose I’m lucky to have a phone consultation at all - but it’s hardly successful. She has no idea where Namibia is and just tells me I need to get to a clinic or hospital if I’m feeling unwell - far from easy in the middle of the desert! And I won’t go into the problems with my newly replaced catheter …….!I know many people might say I’m unwise to take the risk of travelling to remote areas, but I’m determined to live the life we’ve planned as far as possible.

Rant over! Today’s blip is a tiny, tiny moth, wings open against our kitchen window. I’ve tried to identify it, but there doesn’t seem to be a definitive answer!
