What's In a Name...

I spotted this colorful little fly investigating the about to open flowers of a Swamp Milkweed plant. It was so engrossed in whatever it was doing that I had time to go into the house, put a macro lens on my camera and get back to take a couple of shots. It was in no hurry to fly off. This is Chrysomya megacephala, aka an Oriental Latrine Fly (imho...What an awful name!) and a member of the 'blow fly' species that is common in tropical and subtropical regions.
Interesting Tidbit of Info... Forensic entomologists consider C. megacephala to be valuable in helping to determine time of death because its life cycle is very predictable. Ok...TMI!   m
