The tale of Mr Bee
I found Big Bee on our grass. It’s a very large bee and didn’t seem able to fly away. I was a little concerned that the cats might eat the bee (and get stung—which wouldn’t be good), or that we might accidentally step on it.
So I moved it to a plant but noticed that part of its wing was missing. Before long, it came off the plant and was back on the grass. I moved it again to a different plant, and when I went out ten minutes later, I found a spider attacking it. I moved it away, but before long, it was back on the grass again.
My neighbour told me they had seen a really big bee that couldn’t fly well the day before, and that it had gone over the fence into our garden. They had hoped it had been able to fly home, but it seems not.
My neighbour has a little pop-up butterfly house. I borrowed it and moved the bee inside, adding a few plants and some sugar water. My hope was that the bee would be happy there and enjoy its twilight days in the butterfly house.
Sorting out the bee took an excessive amount of time today, but hopefully it’s settled now.
