Journies at home

sandwiches

As a kid we lived off buttered yeast bread on the beaches of North Devon.  When a squall came up from the sea we'd traipse back through the dunes and hunker down in the Dyane 6 until it passed.  Then we'd be turfed out again and got back in the waves.  On the way home from the beach Bobby would want a pint so we'd stop at a roadside pub.  Children were only allowed in the beer garden but we were happy enough sitting on a picnic bench drinking lemonade out of bottles with a straw and sharing a packet of crisps with a twist of salt.

Our day's been a bit like that.with a 40 year gap.

The storms hit last night and blew the circuit but we woke up to clearer skies this morning. We made sandwiches with what we had and packed them up with a half bottle of rosé.  At Labenne the sky hunkered down dark over the ocean so we ate up quickly and took refuge in a pinpin bar where we drank a beer beneath a dripping awning.  The skies cleared and we recrossed the dunes and settled down again by the waves.
