HUMMER

I have a Nikkor F mount 300mm f/2.8 lens....bought it back in '09.  I'm lamenting the fact that the AF works intermittently and it typically malfunctions during the middle of a football or soccer futbol game under the lights.  I've tried to send it in to Nikon for repair...I've even had a photo expert, who knows some guys, search to see if they have the ability to repair it.  I have an inquiry into Nikon Professional (I am a member) to see why it is, apparently, irreparable.  I suspect it's that parts are no longer available  and that they no longer make this lens.  There's an updated model (II) that can be salvaged.  But there has to be old models out there that can be scavenged for parts. I'm waiting to hear back.

I also have an F mount Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens and a 1.7x multiplier.  So I've been fooling around with it on the Nikon D6 body.  The combo gives me 340mm effective at 200mm zoomed but it costs me a stop and a half.  In bad light that hurts.

I shot this image with that combo through the kitchen window, hand held, just to see if it's usable for football this week.  It's a female Ruby-Throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) at the feeder...but y'all already knew that.
