Now, as I see it......

Newport Bridge

Not the best of shots.  It was taken on my phone through the window of a moving train, and the bridge had been hidden behind trees.  When it popped into view I realised I should have had the camera zoomed out a bit more but there wasn't time for that, so this will have to do.

It's the Newport Bridge in Middlesbrough.  It was opened in 1934 and the central span lifted to allow ships to pass underneath.  I've seen it in the raised position but it no longer lifts up; some more information on it here if anyone is interested.

It's Doug's funeral tomorrow.  I was going to drive up today then back tomorrow, stopping in Peterborough to collect W and then carrying on down to Marlborough overnight, and on to Cornwall on Saturday.  However, I decided that was just too much driving in one day especially as the funeral isn't until midday, so instead I have left the car at the station in Peterborough and got the train up instead.  A very comfortable journey which took about two and a half hours with one change.  After the train journey back we won't get to Marlborough tomorrow night until late but at least I will only have to drive there from Peterborough and not all the way from Middlesbrough.

I had the option to meet up with one of 'the lads' to go to a quiz night tonight but it's right over the other side of town so I'd need to sort out taxis there and back and, frankly, I can't be bothered.  I'll have a quiet night in the hotel instead.
