Eye to Eye

My Dear Old Colleagues …

… here for the 75th anniversary of Aiglon College, the international school that we all worked in, in 1977/78! We had invited them for an afternoon/evening of reminiscing. I’d met Roger and Jenny (in the middle) when I was a young student as they ran the Outdoor Pursuits Centre where I did my mountain leader and sea kayak assessments. At Aiglon College they were houseparents and teachers. John (left) was my boss in the expedition department and his wife, Julia (right) often invited me to their home. Joan, 2nd on the right, and I, were both house tutors for 40 girls in a boarding house and had a shared bathroom, not only with each other, but with the washing machine for those 40 girls! How things have changed.  In the boarding houses now, each student room has a bathroom and washing machine facilities on each floor. Joan and I each had our own room but as the junior member, I had a two hot plates to cook on, a very small single bed and a chair and a desk. Now house tutors have great apartments. However the view out of my 4th floor window was a millionaire view which effectively tied me to this area for the rest of my life. Hence the title of my journal, « Hilary’s View ». There are so many stories I could tell you about the fun we had in those two years, these people made them memorable. Thank you for the then and the now, we are lucky to still be here and able to meet again.
