War's End

I went to the "War's End" event at the Royal Logistic Corps Museum north of Winchester.

There was this excellent trio singing 40s songs and dressed to the period too.

Also on view was this Rolls Royce Wraith. Field Marshal Montgomery (Monty) chose to use this vehicle when he arrived in Normandy on 9 June 1944, three days after D-Day. It was the first civilian vehicle on Juno Beach.
Monty wanted an impressive car that implied reliability, power and leadership.
The Ministry of War Transport requisitioned the car from actress Madeleine Carroll in January 1944. It was built to order for her in 1939. Monty used it from 1944 to 1946 while Commanding Group and later Commander of the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR).
