Slept very well, sea stayed calm and the boat was very quiet. It goes slow as part of marine conservation because the ships all use the same routes as whales and they stand far more of chance of surviving if they get hit. Whales and whale poo is essential to the health of the sea and without it the ocean wouldn’t be fertilised to allow the life in it . It also helps regulate the Earths climate by absorbing Carbon dioxide . The marine biologist was very interesting !
Arrived in Bilboa 13.30 .Raining , muggy and overcast , plans soon changed when the planned garage stop to get new tyres didn’t happen. Garage 1 closed until 3 pm . Garage 2&3 had 1-4 day waits ! So abandoned Spain and drive into France and across to the Pyrenees to the beautiful little village of Saint Marie de Campen. Parked in the village Aire ( free camping area) ready for Mike to cycle the col de Tourmalet tomorrow morning .
Spent €50 on tolls in one afternoon , blimey!
It’s grey, misty , cool and a poxy 14 degrees , it’s warmer in Ireland ! I’ve only just got enough clothing to keep warm, it’s been 24-30 degrees here for months ! But it's only for one night and we’ll be chasing the sun and heat in the South tomorrow once himself Is back from cycling. It’s an absolute classic Tour de France mountain climb that he couldn’t resist and I’m so proud that he’s doing it , he’ll really have to pace himself, it’s a brutal climb.
