Museum Day
We drove to Cape Cod to the Cahoon Museum of American Art to see two special exhibits, the John Enneking paintings and a wonderful display of traditional and contemporary Sailor’s Valentines. Enneking was one of the most notable American Impressionists and his work was beautiful. I’ve always loved traditional Sailor’s Valentines and this was an impressive display. They were purchased by sailors on the voyages to bring home to their sweethearts. Most were created in the South Pacific. (I’ve included an extra valentine made by a contemporary artist from shells and plastic debris gathered on beaches.) Karen had never been to the museum and she enjoyed seeing the “art cart”. We were both art teachers in the same school system and had lots of experience teaching from the cart. A lovely lunch at the Dunbar House Tea Room in Sandwich and then back home. Off today to visit my SIL.
