Thursday: South Downs
The South Downs really is a lovely part of the world.
After an al fresco breakfast today’s excursion took us to Bignor Roman Villa to see the incredible mosaics that were discovered there in 1811. It’s amazing to think of the people who lived there centuries ago of whom we know nothing. I’ve added an extra of one of the mosaics. There are many more like it throughout the house.
We decided to forgo the sunflower maze as we were slightly worried that we’d never be seen again. In fact, if I don’t blip for more than a few days send help, as I’m likely trapped in a maze somewhere.
From there we returned to Petworth as we hadn’t had a chance to see the town yesterday. It’s a lovely place - judging by the number of Land Rovers and antique/expensive home items shops it’s clearly very affluent. We supported the local economy by making a purchase in the bookshop, obviously.
With our exceptional talent in this area we discovered the local brewery so stopped off for some supplies before returning to the airship for another excellent campfire evening.
