Orchid bank

Today I have started to mow off the grass that hasn't been mowed since late March (our #nomowmay lasts for 5 months).  It was a beautiful day for mowing - no dew, gentle breeze, sunny periods, not too hot - it doesn't happen like that very often!

I didn't collect the mowings so that any remaining seeds can fall out, so that we have even more wild flowers next year,  I'll collect what's left in a couple of days' time.  I mowed the "lawn" at the bottom of this bank and the rough grass at the top.  The area in-between (with the electric fence round it to keep out the deer) is our orchid bank where I can still see seed heads.  Maybe I'll give it a couple more weeks for the seeds to disperse.
