Thistledown

Today has slipped away without much to show for it except for a visit to the hairdresser which has resulted in an assault on my hair which has all but disappeared. It has been snipped to an extremely short style. I watched as the scissors got nearer and nearer my scalp but seemed transfixed and paralysed to intervene. It is indeed very short. I’ve had to resort to putting on earrings to introduce a bit of femininity to the look. I had thought it was drastic enough for someone to comment at our TGIF drinks get together this afternoon but no one mentioned it. Now I wonder if they noticed at all or if they were so overwhelmed by the sight that they didn’t know what to say or how to say it politely.

Before I walked to the hairdresser and found this blip of a patch of thistle down at the edge of the communal garden in the Meadows I had a long chatty phone call with daughter#1 who was bored having waited in her daughter’s flat for the gasman to arrive and have a look at the malfunctioning boiler. It was bad news for my granddaughter. The boiler was condemned and a new one will cost about £6000. She won’t be happy to hear that. The cat was so traumatised by this turn of events and the presence of the strange man in her house that she has gone into hiding.
