Life's Little Moments

Hummie 2.0

This is a hatch-year juvenile male ruby-throated hummingbird with his first few bright ruby feathers showing.  Usually the young males this time of year have one or two randomly placed red feathers; this is the first I've seen with a little "necklace" of red.  Super cute.  I wonder if he will return to our yard next year?  Something I always wonder actually.

One of the males who've been with us all summer has a distinctive deformity in his beak (the tips are crossed) so if he returns next year, I will have at least a partial answer to my question of whether they return to a specific yard each year.

Hubs left right after breakfast to drive ab out an 90 minutes south of here to pick up his friend and then head out to Queens.  I think they finally got to the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center a little after 12 so a lot of driving.  Their plan was to spend a couple of hours and then go someplace for a late lunch before making the long drive back.  Glad they are getting to spend some time together although wish it didn't involve quite so much driving for Hubs.

Tomorrow I'm shooting a dog obedience trial most of the day.  I got the Running Order last night and was happy to see a lot of familiar dogs on the list including the adorable Eunice who is a personal favorite.  Fun way to spend the day.

I FT'd with mom and dad this morning.  They are holding up better than I probably would be so close to a huge move.  Big heat wave in the Portland area right now, so they were planning a trip to the Farmer's Market and then home to stay inside where it's cool.  I think they still have another couple of hot days ahead before their temps return to normal.

Jax and I have been outside for much of the day putzing around.  I released 3 monarchs and watched a couple more pupate in the garden which is always amazing to watch.  I enjoy this time of year so much.
