Evening sky
The sky was lovely as we headed home, even though it was a right old pain shining in our eyes earlier!
We had spent the day in Poole as part of a surprise 80th birthday party for Ian’s mum. We got to spin the tale that as it was bank holiday we had decided to visit and take her out for some lunch. When we arrived there was a tableful of family and friends which gave her a lovely surprise.
We had a lovely meal and were there from around 3pm to 6:30pm and had the chance to catch up with lots of people we don’t see very often - usually only at big happy or sad family events!
The food was lovely and I had opted for Pavlova for dessert and it was the biggest thing you had ever seen. It had one of those massive colourful meringues you see about rather than a dainty swirl. The cream was also full of lovely mango and some surprise white chocolate! Thankfully, Leo was sat next to me so helped me eat it, after polishing off his own massive chocolate brownie too! Somehow, he also had room for a bit of birthday cake too. I had been defeated by the meringue by that time so couldn’t manage even a tiny slice.
The traffic getting there was unsurprisingly awful given it was a bank holiday. There was the usual volume of traffic, broken down buses, roadworks and slow farm vehicles getting the harvest in. And there was the usual chaos of people driving unfamiliar roads and ended up in unexpected places. Usually we do everything to avoid any holiday traffic routes on a bank holiday - let alone the one giving a nice getaway opportunity before the schools and Unis start back. But on the bright side, the journey back was much more pleasant and we didn’t get held up at all.
It was an early night for me after all that.
