swallowtail caterpillars

I was shocked when I first saw these caterpillars on the parsley in our garden. I had never seen such a thing before! I did a bit of google research and found out they were black swallowtail butterflies, to be. In fact, I have since seen these butterflies in our yard!

One of my art exchanges had a theme of a 'six word story' and mine was "Swallowtail caterpillars are on my parsley." I created cards and envelopes on this theme, which you can see here - along with a photo of one of the visiting butterflies. The caterpillars munched an entire HUGE parsley plant down to almost nothing! All for a good cause though ; )
