The Woodland Garden (Sunday 24th August 2025)
I had a potter round the garden this afternoon. The wisteria that lost all its leaves is already growing new ones. The paths are covered in windfall crabapples, so I photographed some still hanging. The bees were busy on the Front Yard salvia (in Extras).

Linda Jones - What Can I Do (Without You)(1968)
Dave Godin was a great soul afficionado who among other things invented the term "Northern Soul", founded the Tamla Motown Appreciation Society and was largely responsible for bringing a bunch of them to tour the UK. His series of four "deep soul" (also his own term) compilations, Deep Soul Treasures, amount to a pinnacle of the best of the genre and I recently completed my collection of all four. He died shortly after Vol. 4 was released in 2004, and in the following years a fifth volume was prepared and released in 2019 from his lists of some that could not previously be licensed or were somehow unattainable. Having recently purchased it I found it to be the best of all five volumes, in fact choosing one track from it for here has taken some considerable time. Eventually I chose the extraordinary Linda Jones, who died in 1972 of diabetes aged just 28.
