Ironwood
We are over the state line and into Michigan, where we stopped for lunch. Ironwood, as the name implies, was once a mining town, but now it's best known for its ski resorts. Not that much vertical, but the proximity of Lake Superior makes for lots and lots of snow.
The grey skies receded as we travelled north and east - final destination Munising and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (of course we forgot the park pass, but hey). The dark blue of Lake Superior as we drove along the south shore (Hwy 28) was stunning - we should have stopped - but plenty of time for that later, right? (Wrong, this is a backblip.)
Whitefish tacos at a restaurant called The Duck Pond - I admit I chose it for the name and the fact that all the dishes were named after birds (Green-winged Teal, seeing as you ask) and that it was in a hamlet called Christmas that had huge Santas everywhere.
We wanted to be somewhere else, so, here we are. My first trip to Michigan (I think).
