Splooting

A hot day so Paddy and walked around the shady castle moat and the now grassy parade ground. I took his water bottle and never pushed him to go further than he wanted to.
Today’s photo is him when we were around 100m from the car on our way home, it’s called ‘splooting’ most dogs can do it but it is most associated with ‘bull’ breeds.
It’s Paddy’s way of cooling down, as you can see he lays flat on his belly, rear legs extended straight behind him, front legs stretched out in front. This serves as his way of cooling down by getting as much of him as possible in contact with the cool surface of the ground. It also stretches his muscles and relieve tension in his hips and spine.

We both enjoyed our day and cooled off properly with ice cream at home, Paddy’s a carrot & coriander dogs ice cream, mine a couple of scoops of Neapolitan.
