Bathing Bird
Not a very inspired photo but this bird, a thrush, I think, was going to town in our 'water feature'. I took it from the kitchen window, reminding myself what a nice view we have from it. We've been looking at old photos as we've relocated out digital picture frame and were talking this morning about the house on Magnolia St. It was quite charming, but also dark. And the view from the kitchen window was of the neighbor's front door about twenty feet away. I don't really miss the house, but we both agreed that we miss being able to walk to the store, Peet's coffee or the bank. We could even walk to the doctor or the hospital.
John's shoulder is getting better, we both slept better last night and it was cooler today so we managed a bit of deadheading in the garden a nice walk with Spike and a coffee at Trail House. We talked about the neighborhood gathering yesterday at Bruce and Cindy's which was most pleasant. We all agreed that it was nice to have a chance to meet the neighbors and share some really wonderful food. My peach, tomato, cucumber salad was a hit, or at least the bowl was empty and the coleslaw, also empty, took care of a few of the carrots that are overflowing from our fridge. I convinced Patrick, who lives across the street that he and his partner, Ramon should host the next party. They bought a very dated house and told us that they had basically gutted it and reconfigured it. I'm sure they've done a wonderful job. They own the best furniture store in town, but have downsized in hopes of having a little more free time.
The fire continues to burn in Calistoga. It's actually in very remote hill territory and they seem to be concentrating on strengthening the perimeter and protecting structures and people as it is still only about 11% contained. I heard the night vision helicopters during the night and there are still planes flying over today, but there is very little smoke on our side of the hill.
We're back on schedule for Sunday suspper at JIm and Dana's and it is just about time to head over there....
