I didn't start my walk until 10 o'clock, a bit late given the forecast, but it wasn't too hot because there was a breeze.
After lunch I tackled the crabapple tree, picking what I hope will be enough for three jars of jelly. While it was simmering I stripped the ends of the branches of their weight of apples and watched them spring back up. I'm sure I will have to do some pruning, but not yet. I gave the tree two watering cans full of water and will give it some more this evening, its only five years since I planted it and, as we all know, its been particularly dry!
The apples are now draining. I'll leave them overnight and do the sugar boiling and bottling tomorrow.
