GORSE HILL COMMUNITY FUN DAY - WHAT A GREAT DAY!
Well, we prayed for good weather, and we were not disappointed - a great time was had by all who came and I believe the official total of people through the gates was 1,030 although that number probably doesn’t include babies in buggies, and there were lots of those!
I tried to make a collage to show all the different gazebos, marquees and shots of the actual field. The Fun Day Team was amazing and everyone “mucked in” from the start at 8 a.m. although I admit I wasn’t there at that time - but I was there and wandering around the field from 11 o’clock onwards until I left at 4.30 p.m.
There was a great atmosphere and everything was completely free, although there was an ice cream van just outside the boundary and unfortunately the ice creams weren’t free!
There was a toddler zone, a craft tent, a prayer tent, games and races for the children and adults, tug of war, free burgers and cakes, plenty of drinks, a control tent, a bouncy castle and some sort of bungee slide that looked quite challenging - I didn’t even go near this - not my scene! However, I noticed our new Minister, who will be inducted in a couple of weeks, was going head to head with a member of the congregation, but I’m not quite sure who won! We even provided sun cream for those who hadn’t brought any.
There was a tent with various games from a neighbouring Church and also a tent run by a Christian organisation called “Good News for Everyone”, which was originally The Gideons. Many of you may have a little red Bible in a drawer somewhere that you were given, perhaps at school, because they used to give one to every pupil, way back when I was at school, which is a very long time ago! Today they were giving out magazines and New Testaments and I noticed that lots were taken, so the Good News of Jesus is getting out into the world of Gorse Hill.
There were also two fire tenders on the field and as I wandered around giving out my little wooden hearts, I could see the delight on the faces mainly of little boys as they poked and prodded and asked questions about the various items on the tenders and the firemen who were there were very patient and kind.
Many of our customers from the Community Fridge were there and it was great to see them all enjoying themselves and chatting with one another.
It was meticulously arranged by the Fun Day Team and there were lots of helpers, most of whom wore a red tee shirt and lots of Junior Helpers too, who did amazing work. Everything seemed to go like clockwork, but as we often say “Team work makes the dream work” and of course, there was lots of prayer before, during and after the event. During the afternoon, there were litter pickers going round and collecting any litter on the field, because of course, it has to be left in a tidy condition at the end.
Mr. HCB, meanwhile, rested at home and I checked in with him a couple of times during the afternoon. I eventually left at about 4.30 but there was still a lot of work to do in setting down, but as I am unable to lift much, thought I would probably be more of a hindrance if I stayed. One of the ladies who was serving burgers kindly sent two home in a bun for Mr. HCB though so he didn’t miss out entirely.
So another Fun Day has come and gone and I hope that all those who attended enjoyed it - all those I spoke to said they had, and when I asked one little girl, who was about 6 years old if she had come last year her response was “Yes, and I’m coming next year and the year after and the year after!” She obviously enjoys it!
I do hope that the Peppa Pig and another teddy found their owners - and if not, perhaps they might like to join my Silly Saturday Gang - must ask around!
So all that remains is for me to thank the GHBC FUN DAY TEAM together with ALL THE VOLUNTEERS - you did an amazing job today - I'm sure you will sleep well tonight!
