Tractor and Acrobat
We had a lovely relaxed walk around Gillingshill Nature Reserve this morning. Enjoyed lots of brambles :-). Just as we got back to the car this great 1954 tractor arrived with a peculiar thing on the back. Turns out to be an Acrobat, about the same age as the tractor, and used to role up the hay into rope-like rows, which make it easier for the baler to do it’s work. The baler, I think, is about the same age as the tractor.
“The Friends of Gillingshill” who are doing their best to help out with the upkeep of the reserve, while the council try to sell it, chose to use this great old machinery to cut and bale the hay in this wee field.
I took some photos and stood and chatted while we imagined ourselves 60 or 70 years ago when this would have been a familiar scene. The tractor driver was having a good time.
The rest of the day has been reading, but too hot in the summer house. Pottered in the garden late afternoon when it cooled down a bit. Later we walked along to Catriona’s with some beetroot and rhubarb.
Today has been a good day.
