Everyone Knows This

Everyone knows that what’s to come
will involve us going Brrrrr!

Soon we’ll be wanting hot drinks
just because they are hot
and not because they act as pick-me-ups
and we’ll choose to be inside
rather than outside to drink our cups
of strong coffee or tea.

We don’t need a Brrrrr! on a window
to remind us that snow
and ice and rising energy bills
are waiting for us, do we?

And you don’t need me, on a sunny Bank Holiday,
bringing it to your attention either. Oh my,
that my blipping has come to this!
