Sgwarnog: In the Field

Emerald

Although I wasn’t able to get super close for a better photo, this is my first ever sighting of a Willow Emerald damselfy. They have been expanding their range from south east England, and I knew that there had been some other West Yorkshire sightings this year, but it was still something I wasn’t expecting on our humble Red Brick Dam.

There was quite a good variety of butterflies about, but not great quantities: Speckled Wood, Large White, Comma, Small Copper, Green-veined White, Common Blue, Peacock and Red Admiral.

Later, I headed over to Guiseley for my final piece of bank holiday weekend football, with Stocksbridge Park Steels the visitors in a Northern Premier League fixture.  After a goal apiece in the first half, energy levels dropped as the second game in three days and the very hot conditions caught up with the players. 1-1 the final score.
