West Gate

After a two hour drive from Glasgow we arrive in Reiver country, just north of the border in Berwickshire. It is not cold but very wet. We are staying in the gatehouse of a Scottish Castle. Nothing actually remains of the castle itself as it was replaced by a palatial home built in 1771-5.

The rather austere looking cottage belies its interior which was rebuilt with all modern conveniences and while retaining its character would make a very comfortable small home. It is our home for two nights.

A pleasant evening in the castle itself before returning to our cottage around midnight or maybe a bit later. We are at Duns right next to the border and not far from Berwick.
