And The Password Is...
When I looked up the name of this amazingly marked beetle, my first thought was..."what a great password that would make!" This is the Delta flower scarab, Trigonopeltastes delta, and it's native to the southeastern U.S. Adults feed on pollen and nectar and their larvae live in decomposing wood. When I spotted this beauty on some Swamp Milkweed flowers growing in our backyard, I rushed inside to change to my macro lens and was able to take a few shots before she flew off. Too much attention too early in the morning I guess!
Its triangle shaped marking resembles the Greek letter Delta and mimics those of a stinging wasp. This is good defense for the Delta scarab beetle since it is harmless with no other defenses.
