Nice to see them
One of the prominent features of the village was the railings, known locally as ‘Ancaster Railings’ as it was thought peculiar to the Ancaster Estate which Rippingale came under. After a bit of Googling I think the name would really be just ‘Estate Railings’, but that would spoil local history.
Throughout the village most of the original railings have been hidden by overgrown hedges, so it’s great when someone cuts the hedge back to reveal them. Although soaked to the skin I just had to take a quick shot on the way back from our afternoon’s walk. It was fine when we set out.
