A very sad ruin
Our lovely neighbours Yvonne and Rod live deep in Nellies Glen under the cliffs of Narrow Neck. Yvonne built herself a weekend cabin using her stonemason skills in the ‘80s (yes, she built it herself). With Rod, she moved in permanently in the ‘90s and lived there until 2007 when they built a beautiful house 50m away well equipped with water storage, pumps and hoses in case of the inevitable fire.
In December 2019 the bushfire arrived, the same fire that wiped out the southern half of our farm. Their thorough preparations for the event saved everything they owned….. except the old stone house which Yvonne called the shed.
It remains untouched 6 years later a sad reminder of the day but Yvonne, in her usual style, can talk philosophically about the whole experience without ever losing her smile.
