Gently down the stream

Seeing the end of summer

I had a good early walk this morning and photographed a lot of its details, but it was this sight of a speckled wood butterfly on a bed of yellowing leaves that really did it for me.  Summer has gone, no question.  The long hot dry has gone with it.  We've had much sunshine today but interspersed with furious rain showers.

On my walk I met a friend who goes out with her camera every day, but we usually go in opposite directions.  She's a much better spotter than I am and also one of the UK's best glass engravers.  Why am I telling you this?  I think because I know that however much I see, there are people who observe more carefully and see so much more deeply than I do - cataract surgery or not, haha - and I just wish I knew how they manage it.

The rest of the day's been pretty quiet and domestic.  I'm still catching up with all the dirty corners of the house that I didn't realise needed serious attention until I had my eye surgery two weeks ago.  And, lovely thought, from tomorrow I no longer need to go out wearing dark glasses to protect my eye even when it's raining.  Hooray for that!

Have a lovely evening, all  xx
