I harvested every remaining large chard leaf, and left just the tiny ones at the middle of each plant that seem to think it's spring, not autumn. But maybe they'll grow, now they can get direct light. 

This lot is now mostly steamed down to much less volume and in the freezer, but I did also make soup out of some of the stalks.

Then this evening I planted twelve lettuces out of pots and into the ground - almost as if I think it's spring, not autumn.

As I dug the holes, I was surprised to see that the several torrential bouts of rain we have had over the last couple of days have penetrated less than 15mm into the soil. Below that it is still very dry.
