Median Wasp

When i saw this Wasp this morning hovering around some Fox poo I was intrigued as it was much darker than the wasps I usually find in my garden. I did a bit of research and it is a Median Wasp (Dolichovespula media), a relatively new colonist of the UK from Europe having been first recorded in1980 in Sussex. It can now be found across most of southern England with scattered records further north.
