Casa de los Indianos
Emigration to the Americas (and elsewhere - Switzerland, Germany, Australia, and more) was a major feature in Asturian history. Earlier there were economic imperatives and later, from the 1940s, there was also for some the need to be beyond the reach of political enemies. Many did not succeed economically but some did, and those who did and came back rich, were called "indianos". Many of them demonstrated their wealth by building very substantial houses, designed to impress, near to their place of origin. Those houses were called "las casas de los indianos" - houses of the Indianos. This, the wide, glass-fronted mansion, is one such, outside Sevares.
