Around the Block

A Varied Day!

Up and out early to let the flat get cleaned (a small holiday luxury we allow ourselves!) and into the centre of Rio on the stroke of ten am when the National Library of Brazil opened its doors!

It’s a magnificent building finished in 1910 with an impressive square four-storey atrium but, amazingly, only one book (first edition in 1947 of The Little Prince) on display. The rare books and manuscripts are off in time-warped rooms reserved for folk with reader/researcher cards.

We enjoyed a coffee and egg roll in a local café, just round the block from The Amarelinho terrace, shown here with Dd, which only does lunches and dinners. Then, after a Posto 1 beach stop, we met our apartment ‘manager’, Hugo, along with his wife Adriana and son, Luigi, now a sizeable fifteen-monther, for afternoon tea!
