Pierced

I’ve thought about doing this for ages, and knowing I had the time off decided to entrust myself to the same piercer at Laura Bond in Edinburgh who had done Mel’s nose roughly a year and a half ago.

Not long before the appointment they’d posted on their Instagram about whether a piercing in your 40s was a mid-life crisis, determining amongst other things that is was more mid-life confidence. That struck a chord, at 49, as I plan a second tattoo to celebrate my 50th as well.

I’d never have had the guts to do this in my 20s or 30s; and even now, at 49, my over-riding ‘anti’ sentiment was worry about what my parents would think, which is mad (and I know they’ll not like it - my dad still doesn’t know about the first tattoo 6 or 7 years ago, it’s just not worth the hassle). This is a bit more visible however…

But I love it, and capped of a nice trip into Edinburgh, wandering round the good (but wee bit expensive) Andy Goldsworthy exhibition (photos in the extras from a Ricoh 35 ZF, which also happens to be of a 1976 vintage, that was trying out for the day), then a cracking late lunch at new-ish Little Capo.

Long may the confidence continue to grow.
