Portobello pier
stood from 1871 to 1917 and popular with its ballroom over 300 metres from the shore designed by Thomas Bouch yes he of the first Tay rail bridge which fell into the Tay with a full train!!
This pier was visited by steamers plying the Firth of Forth calling at North Berwick, Elie and other 'resorts'. Storms kept wrecking this exposed pier but kept going till corrosion of legs did for it also the steamers were requsitioned for the war
