Together

Today I turned my thoughts to varnishing the new treads for the attic stairs, so I started looking for what I could get from where. As I had with the timber, after a frustrating search on the B&Q and ScrewFix sites, I found a specialist in Loanhead. With A needing the car, I took my bike and, in the store found an experienced guy who advised me on what would be best for the job. With a litre can in my backpack, I took the opportunity to Turf my way home on the (more pleasant) "old railway route". However, I took a wrong turning in the industrial estate and, as I was heading towards Stewart Brewing, decided that it was a sign, so bought four cans and a bottle of quality beer. It balanced my backpack nicely...

Just before I got home I saw two cyclists at the side of the street. They were looking down at some problem, so I asked if they were OK. One had a loose crank nut, so was stuffed without a 14mm socket and wrench - which aren't things that you take out on a day trip. They were very grateful when I said that they could follow me home and have the use of my socket set. I just said that it could have been me in the same situation...

Django clearly thought that all the coming and going meant that I'd be taking him for a walk (see extra) so I cracked and we wandered around Penicuik. By then the varnishing had been "postponed", so I followed the United game and then watched the England Women annihilate Samoa in the rugby World Cup. By then daughter L had arrived on a fleeting visit from London. In the evening we went into Edinburgh to join daughter K at SEN, a Vietnamese restaurant near George Square. A had been before, and it was generally excellent.
