That time of year again

Buoyed by the success of yesterday’s quiet day, I opted for another one today. We are cat-sitting for our next-door neighbours, who have gone to their cottage for Labour Day weekend. I completely forgot it was Labour Day weekend, until Mrs. Ottawacker reminded me, so had a sudden bout of misery at the unofficial end of summer. It’s been a hot one, which is fine by me.

Ottawacker Jr. is still no better from his chest issues. He is also no worse. He slept well, as did we all, and consequently I think the probability of a football injury is the most likely reason for the pain. It being Labour Day, there is no chance of a quick in/out at the hospital (i.e., in under 12 hours) so we’ll play it by ear and try and see his doctor at the resumption of normal service. In the meantime, it seemed like a good opportunity for me to reclaim my table tennis crown, so I took him over to next door’s basement and inflicted a sound thrashing. Well, I did in the first set. In the second, he reversed the scores. He doesn’t even need to be able to move properly to beat me now.

Day 3 of the soup diet and it is going well. I am actually quite enjoying it. The, erm, movements are more controlled too. Also, as it has been three days since I drank alcohol or ate meat, I am getting that sort of beatific glow that encourages strangers to come towards me and rub my stomach for good luck. In the evening, we watched Monuments Men, which is a pretty poor film but good at the same time. Cate Blanchette is, as always, infinitely watchable. Also worth noting was Ottawacker Jr.’s reaction to the Nazi burning of the artworks, and a subsequent linking to what they are doing in the southern States. Nobody who destroys books is ever the good guy.
