Húsafell and Reykholt
In the morning, we hiked from the hotel to the top of Bæjargil canyon. Fabulous views from the top and lots of interesting sculptures in the canyon by local artist Pall Guðmundsson. Then we drove to Reykholt a tiny village once home to Snorri Sturluson saga writer, politician, historian, and poet. A fascinating spot!
- Snorrilaug or Snorri's pool - medieval hot pool used by the man himself in the 12th century.
- Icelandic sheep.
- Sculpture by Pall Guðmundsson in Bæjargil canyon.
- Sheep fold and Húsafell stone. The stone has been used over the centuries as a test of physical strength by either simply lifting it or by lifting and carrying it around the sheep fold. I couldn't even move it, and neither could hubby!
- Pall Gudmunðsson's representation of the ghost fold where the reverend Snorri Björnsson sent 18 ghosts back to the underworld!
- View from top of Bæjargil canyon.
- Barnafoss.
