Tern feeding young

We started off today with a visit to a well known hardware chain to buy decorating products! Well its a bank holiday weekend and the weather looks miserable and they were offering 15% off this weekend weren't they!

Having bought the paint to decorate the lounge in a couple of weeks time and the downstairs cloakroom too, it was still miserable so we just got on with the cloakroom!

After lunch we decided that while the first coat of paint dried we would take a trip to Coate Water and see if we could find the kingfishers. One arrived just before we were due to leave and I got a few shots, but from my position in the hide the kingfisher was against light water and so is quite dark by comparison (Mrs TPV got some good shots though as her Facebook friends will already have seen!)

So the next best shot was of this juvenile common tern being given a fish by one of its parents. I can only image that all the squawking that went on just before was junior asking if the parent had remembered the ketchup this time!

Then it was back home for the next stage of the painting!

Ah the joys of bank holiday weekends!
