Emerging 2
The raspberry leaves are bursting forth. What joy.
I was in town for the second day running, which is very much against my principles, but which was a necessity.
I went to a new (to me) podiatrist yesterday because for the past year I have found it increasingly hard to trim my toenails without over-stretching and hurting my dodgy back. At times like these I'd like a companion (other than Bean).
When I got home yesterday I realised that one side of my big toe was sore. By the time I went to bed it was red, swollen and painful to the lightest touch. I didn't sleep much... and was barely able to walk this morning.
So I called the podiatrist, who told me she was just boarding a plane to Hamilton and she can fit me in next week (!). I threw an assertive wobbly and left her to get on her flight.
5 minutes later I heard from her: she had contacted another podiatrist in Oamaru who could fit me in this morning. And the first podiatrist would foot the bill.
So off I hobbled ... and saw podiatrist number 2, who was also new to me. She took one look at my toe, immediately diagnosed an ingrowing toenail, and offered to give me an injection before attacking it with clippers and a scalpel.
I declined the needle and gritted my teeth (and squeaked only twice) as she operated. The relief was instant when the pressure was released. It's not pretty to look at (hence the photo of the raspberry leaves) but it is almost pain-free and I can put a shoe on again.
Methinks the second podiatrist has a new client. And the first one has lost one. It baffles me that she missed something so obvious. Even I had an inkling...
So ends an annoying, but ultimately satisfying episode and day.
Bean empathised: she has had her own toe nail troubles in the past.
