Staircase

In Canberra, we’re staying in a rental apartment in the Nishi Building, a 12 year old mixed-use building between the City Centre and the University. It’s imaginatively designed and has won architectural awards. My blip photo today is of the formal entrance staircase, described as

a spectacular wooden installation composed of over 2,150 pieces of recycled timber. These explode outwards, forming walls, a ceiling, and a central staircase. The splintered nails and gnarly ends of each piece of timber give the space variation, texture and tactility.
