The Shed , Resin and Bird Boxes

Well Tuesday is Shed Day and it was a very eventful session.

First came the uncovering of the Button Shield to see if the resin had set/cured. The good news was that our session with heat guns last week has led to most of the coverage now having set. But there is still a small area that is tacky. So more work with the heat guns next week.

We are looking to raise some funds for the Shed so someone came up with the bright idea of building bird boxes and selling them. I had found a book on how to build one in a NT Second Hand book shop.

So I followed the “simple” instructions only to find the measurements they gave were incorrect. Solved the problem with some minor changes and built a prototype.

However when it came to position the hole for the bird to enter the book referred me to a page at the end of the book where measurements were given for different species of birds. To my horror the measurements given at the front of the book were all too big for any of the birds listed.

So a new prototype is under construction. To my surprise I was able to put in to use Technical Drawing and Basic Geometry skills taught in school over 60 years ago.

To be continued next Tuesday

Will the resin finally fully cure….
Will the Bird Box be finished next week without the need for Computer Aided Design……
