Insect Saloon

We have a large oak tree in the front yard that is infested with borers. This causes it leak sap through the borer holes This sap seems to be highly acidic and kills any plants it drips on, and smells like vinegar. In spite of this, it draws all kinds of insects, like free wine on Skid Row, to drink the sap. Today, there was a swarm of honey bees competing with a cicada killer for a place at the bar. Butterflies also like, particularly red-spotted purples like the two that were there this afternoon.
