Fly The Flag!
As per yesterday’s blip, Brazil is flying its flag high for democracy and the rule of law, today. In its history of republicanism, there have been nine tumultuous uprisings against these concepts with different degrees of impact . . . the worst being the military coup of 1964 which led to twenty-years plus of dictatorship. No one involved in these attacks has ever, not even the 1964 over-throwers, sat in the dock and faced justice. Today, it happened, when former President Bolsonaro and a cohort of his ex-ministers plus the Head of the Navy and several senior army generals sat in that very place . . . a strengthening of something, let’s call it the backbone of justice.
In other news, we are in the airport now, Barcelona-bound, after six marvellous weeks in the marvellous city of Rio de Janeiro. It has not been plain sailing in some respects given events elsewhere, but we feel rested, very connected to the place and sorry to be leaving!
The main collage is our last outing along the front, the extra, a little insight into the physical grooves we live in around this block!
Até logo, Rio!
