I didn't "zed" as well as I'd hoped, and was out of the hotel by 08:40, intending to have breakfast on my way to visit the flat that daughter L (with a little help from me) is buying in Brockley. I had plenty of time, so took the opportunity to visit a few well-known places I'd never seen for myself. Of course I was guided by Turf, and the prospect of taking "unique" zones. The first was at Cutty Sark, an impressive sailing ship. I then crossed the myriad small streets and brick terraces of Greenwich until I reached the open spaces and fine architecture of the Old Royal Naval College. Despite the damp and dull weather, Greenwich Park itself was an unexpected pleasure since it's not flat and full of fine broadleaf trees. After that, I crossed Blackheath, which was rather dull in comparison, being just an expanse of parched grass and traffic-filled roads.

Just before 11:00, I reached Brockley via Lewisham itself, and finally had a coffee and flapjack at a café opposite the station where L soon joined me. We chatted for a bit, then walked over to the flat. I'd researched the area using Google Maps and the estate agent's property guide, so it was oddly familiar. However, I was still impressed to see a banana tree in a near neighbour's front yard! The flat itself was much as I'd imagined, and I saw nothing that concerned me, but L was glad for the sanity check.

After the visit the rain came on as we walked away, so we missed out on a tour of the centre of Brockley, and went for a very pleasant lunch in a pub near the station where I left for King's Cross.

On the way back we were delayed by 50 minutes in York station, due to cows being loose on the line further north. I'll still not be late back, and I now have a proper feel for where L will live - both the flat and the area.
