Perched
With torrential showers on and off I was thankful to be in a hide so missed getting soaked but that couldn't be said for the hobbies who braved it out on high dead trees overlooking the lake. It did mean however that they had their backs to me and couldn't be spotted except with a long lens.
For all the great distance between us I think his eyesight must be very acute (he saw me) especially when they hunt insects on the wing with low flight over the reeds and water.
One of the hobbies this afternoon powering down from his perch into the reeds below in the Extra. They can fly down a swift and even catch a bat in flight. Here they are after the dragonflies but they also catch swallows which is why when the chicks hatch in July there is an abundance of food for them.
I think they are one of the prettier falcons.
