Personal Bests
A very busy, but exciting day for us, and a few hundred other people involved in the Winchester Personal Bests, which is the annual sports day in Hampshire for adults who have learning disabilities. As always, it was organised superbly by Active LD. This year, there were more than 200 participants, with the help of more than 70 volunteers, taking part, at the excellent Winchester indoor sports centre and adjacent Winchester University sportsground. There were six teams ( named after different countries)moving during the day around six different stations: cricket skills, athletics, circuits & yoga, squash, boxing ( very popular!),and here is one participant attempting to score a goal in the football skills. As well as having the opportunity to try new activities and meet friends and make new ones, every participant gets a medal and certificate at the end of the day.
We were so lucky with the weather; the heavy rain easing off as we began the event. This year, Martin and I accompanied one team ( named Jamaica) as they moved through the activities.
It was a great success and it was wonderful to see so many happy faces throughout the day and as people departed clutching their awards.
